Artist Statement
Using the simple vocabulary of metal lines in space, I create three-dimensional objects anchored in the earth yet breaking away from their gravitational limitations.
Searching to comprehend nature’s invisible language, I use line, rhythm, and space to express energies connecting us with both the earth and the heavens.
Large Solo Show: Seismic Dream
In 2011, I presented my solo exhibition, Seismic Dream, at the American University Museum in the Sylvia Berlin Katzen Sculpture Garden. Working under time constraints and site-specific structure, I transformed the garden environment. I also worked with a fabricator and the museum staff to temporarily alter the entire envelope of the large concrete space. My hard work creating the solo exhibition paid off when Seismic Dream won critical acclaim.
My Award-Winning Art Installation
In 2006, I received the GAIA PRIZE for a permanent art installation at Potomac Overlook Regional Park in Arlington, VA. For this project, I worked closely with the park staff and community to develop a design that supported the park’s educational needs while remaining connected to the natural setting.
Personal Life and Experiences
My experience includes working with a cooperative gallery, directing a public interest law center, teaching art and art history to children, and participating in community activities. I have also been practicing Tai Chi for over a decade.
Associations and Community Work
From 1981 to 1993, I co-founded the Westside Arts Center, a nonprofit arts organization in Santa Monica, CA, where artists teach kids. My time in this nonprofit helped me hone my organizational and communications skills. I then served as President of the Washington Sculptors Group, a nonprofit organization in Washington, DC, from 2004 to 2009. Presently, I am a docent at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art (SBMA), leading tours of the museum for both students and adults. I also previously served as President of the SBMA Docent Council from 2024 to 2025.
